Friends of stars meeting
Business Risks in a World of Uncertainty and Insecurity
John R. ALLEN, President of The Brookings Institution, retired US Marine Corps four-star general, Washington, DC
14 September 2019, 11.30-14.00
Vienna House, Bleicheplatz 1, Schaffhausen

From refugees on the move to populist revolts, trade wars and digital disruption, turmoil is roiling all nations. In the wake of anti-globalization, the process of decoupling from an integrated world is now underway on many fronts. The aim of the White House trade hawks is to dismantle supply chains and to decouple the economies of the United States and China from each other. The aim of the Brexiteers is to de-integrate from the European Union. And now Turkey and NATO may be parting ways. At the planetary level, the cascading consequences of a warming climate are melting the ice caps and fomenting extreme weather.

At this Friends of stars meeting, John R. ALLEN, President of The Brookings Institution, which is consistently ranked as the world’s Nr. 1 think tank, will discuss geostrategic megatrends shaping economies and political alliances around the globe. As a retired Four-star General and Former Commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, ALLEN will share his experience in tackling a perplexing welter of crosscurrents and daunting challenges to lead successfully through uncertainty and insecurity.
