Over the past decade, Nepal has lifted more and more people out of poverty and made significant progress in human development. Yet, four out of five Nepalese still live on less than USD 2 per day. Following the promulgation of a new constitution, Nepal aims to graduate from least-developed country status by 2022 and to become a middle-income country by 2030. The stars Nepal alumni study tour (February/March 2024) will explore how Nepal’s Vision 2030 can bring about inclusive and sustainable development to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of thirty million Nepalese.

Background reading:
- Article about stars alumna Karvika THAPA, Chief Executive Officer, Kimbu Tech
“Starting a company was not at the top of her mind when she returned to Kathmandu, but when she found that there were so few women in Nepal’s IT sector, Karvika decided to take the risk and work to create quality jobs, especially for women in a male-dominated industry.”
Returning to Nepal has its rewards - Nepal’s government is taking a long-term vision, aiming to graduate from least-developed country status by 2022 and to transform into a developed country by 2043. Nepal hopes to graduate to a middle-income economy by 2030.
“Envisioning Nepal 2030” provides a general direction for this strategy. - stars alumnus Prof. Dr. Markus PRANDINI conducted an educational project with the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in Dhangadhi in the FarWestern Province of Nepal. In this personal report, Markus writes about his motivation to make a difference through education and what he considers the competencies necessary for any students and future leaders to thrive in the 21st century. Nepal’s vision to progress from a least developed towards a middle-income country will also be in the focus of the stars Nepal alumni study tour.
