Film as the Media for the Visionary
Michael SCHINDHELM, Writer, Filmmaker, Advisor on Culture and Arts; Member, stars International Board, Lugano/Singapore
13 January 2022, 10.00-10.30 (CET)

The filmmaker is always in search of that relevant moment. One that may come to be symbolic of our era, or opens a window into the future. Film holds a special relationship to the present time, capturing the moment unlike any other medium. It attempts at distilling the essence of our time and to imagine what might come to pass. In this manner, filmmaking is quite literally a medium for the visionary.

In his documentary films stars International Board Member Michael SCHINDHELM spans the last 20 years of China’s transformation and tells stories of influential “heroes of our time” like that of the BioNTech Founders Özlem TÜRECI and Ugur SAHIN.

Michael SCHINDHELM (1960) was born in the former GDR, studied quantum chemistry in the Soviet Union and is a Swiss national based in Ticino, Switzerland. He is a writer, filmmaker, curator and a cultural advisor for international organizations including places like Dubai, Hong Kong, Moscow and Saudi Arabia. Prior to this he was founding General Director for the Berliner Opernstiftung, Germany (2005-2007) and CEO and Artistic Director of the Theater Basel, Switzerland (1996-2006).
